GREEK MUSIC ARCHIVE

The AEPI Greek Music Archive was created in 1994. With the aid of special musicologists and trained Greek music researchers, the Greek Music Archive started to record, collect, classify and essentially “save” all Greek music works published from 1896 (when the first recording of Greek song in America is registered) until today. Towards this end, the Greek Music Archive collects data on the people involved in the Greek discography (composers, authors, performers, organ-grinders, sound engineers, publishers etc.), collects and classifies 78, 45 and 33 rpm records, compact discs (CD), music scores, music books and magazines, publications, biographical elements, photographical material etc.

The creation of the Greek Music Archive has been a cultural and historic necessity for AEPI. By taking advantage of the information on Greek music that AEPI has collected during the 78 years of its activity and by constantly adding new information, the Archive became an exceptionally useful tool for the accurate documentation of music works and also a reliable point of reference for the resolution of its members’ differences. Furthermore, by having a large amount of information on the recorded Greek music works, it is a unique source of information in Greece. It is addressed to researchers, students, artists, producers or simple listeners and friends of Greek music, who would like to use the collected material.
